Oh, hello

Nice to meet you! My name is Katie Budris—a poet, professor of creative writing, lit mag editor, tap dancer, and breast cancer survivor. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, I now call the Philadelphia suburbs home. I live in south New Jersey with my husband Chris and our English Mastiff, Winnie.

ABOUT KATIE

I've been teaching in higher education since 2007, currently at Rowan University in South Jersey where I am an Associate Teaching Professor in the Writing Arts Department, Program Coordinator for the MA in Writing, and Editor-in-Chief of Glassworks literary magazine. I hold an MFA in Creative Writing from Roosevelt University with an emphasis in poetry and a BA in English from Hope College. I also studied abroad twice through the Prague Summer Program and the Vienna Summer School program.

I have published two poetry chapbooks, Mid-Bloom (2021) and Prague in Synthetics (2015) both with Finishing Line Press. Poems have appeared in literary journals including Border Crossing, Deep Wild Journal, Philadelphia Stories, River and South Review, Temenos, and others.

When I'm not teaching or writing, I'm probably tap dancing with The Lady Hoofers Tap Ensemble, an all-women company based in Philadelphia. I have danced with the company since 2011 and currently handle administrative work as the Managing Director and serve on the Board of Directors.

In my spare time (haha) you might find me doing yard work with my husband or snuggling on the floor with my dog. Do you have a dog? Seriously, sharing cute dog pictures or videos is the true way to my heart. Bonus if your dog is a giant breed.
